$15 AKA gua sha - An ancient modality which uses a smooth-edged tool to scrape adhesions in fascia and muscle. This is not a stand alone service and must be booked along with a massage. It works by creating a microtrauma under the skin which produces a localized inflammatory response, this increases blood flow and nutrient exchange to the area. It also mechanically breaks up adhesions in muscle tissue, fascia, and tendons, and stimulates growth of new fibers for better mobility and pain relief. Another way to use it is for lymphatic drainage to reduce swelling, which is a more gentle technique than what's used for breaking up adhesions. A few specific conditions it can treat are plantar fasciitis, tenditis (tennis elbow, golf elbow, or rotator cuff tendinitis), or scar tissue. Scraping is contraindicated for those taking blood thinners, bleeding disorders, or recent sunburn.
